Eagles Overpower Tigers

Players of the Week Kountz1

By Scott Womack

After a dominating victory over Kountz, the Tigers traveled to Woodville determined to derail the #8 ranked Eagles. The size, speed and experience of the Eagles proved too much for the Tigers.

The Tigers won the toss end deferred until the second half, giving the ball to the Eagles to begin the game. The Tigers forced the Eagles to a 4th down attempt, deep inside Tiger Territory and were able to break free for the score, setting the tone for the game. The Eagle defense held strong forcing the Tigers opening drive to end with a punt. The Eagles again were able to march down the field and score taking a 13-0 first quarter lead.
The Tigers were able to open the 2nd quarter with a perfectly thrown touchdown pass from #9 Grisham Vaught to #6 Brice Smith to tighten the score at 13-6. On the kickoff the Eagles regained their 13-point lead with a return for the score against the Tigers. The Eagle defense continued to keep the Tiger offense out of the end zone for the remainder of the first half while their scoring continued. At the end of the first half the Eagles held a 34-6 lead.
The Tigers received the ball to start the 3rd quarter but the Eagle defense was able to stop the Tigers. After #11 Dejuan Hall’s punt pinned the Eagles deep in their own end of the field they began a quarter long scoring drive extending their lead 41-6.
Although facing an unsurmountable deficit, the Tigers continued to fight. With 8:38 left in the game after passes from Vaught to #3 Aundrea Holmes and #6 Smith the Tigers were able to put another touchdown on the board. On the extra point try, #5 Jace Stout took the snap for the kick and rolled to the right going untouched for the 2-point conversion, bringing the score 47-14. The high-powered Eagle offense would score again bringing the Final Score 53-14.
Although disappointed with the final score, Coach Droddy reminded the team that Woodville was by far the best team in the district and should go deep into the playoffs. We knew before the game that the Eagles were a good team with a lot of size and speed.
The Tigers return to Tiger Stadium Friday night to host the Coldspring Trojans. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30PM.
