Representative from Congressman’s campaign speaks to local group

On Feb. 14 the Republican Women of Trinity County welcomed guest speaker Craig Lewellyn to address the regular monthly meeting of members.  As a new representative from Congressman Kevin Brady’s campaign, Lewellyn assured the group that Congressman Brady is working diligently to pass a sweeping Tax Reform Bill as well as the Repeal and Replacement of Obama Care.  Congressman Brady is the first Texan to serve as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee in 200 years and will have a crucial role in pushing through legislation.  His committee established a “Better Way Tax Plan” that he believes will pass Congress this year.

The plan obliterates the current unwieldy tax code, replacing seven individual tax rates with just three: 12 percent, 15 percent, and 33 percent.  It also slashes corporate taxes from 35 percent to 20 percent, and lowers taxes on other business from 44.6 percent to 25 percent.  The plan allows small businesses to fully write off infrastructure investments, eliminates the  “Death Tax” to save family-owned farms and businesses, and reverses penalties to help bring jobs back to the United States.

The plan’s goal is to dismantle the IRS and make the agency smaller and more focused on customer service.  The plan will establish a new unit for small businesses and corporations as well as an independent “Small Claims Court” to quickly settle tax disputes. The plan retains popular standard deductions of mortgage interest, charitable giving, and education expenses incorporating streamlined tax forms as small as a post card.
