Crime Stoppers Spotlight: Senior Investigator Randy Wheeler

Randy Wheeler is the senior investigator for the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department who resides with his family in Trinity County, and is a member of the Joe Werner Masonic Lodge.

Investigator Wheeler’s law enforcement career began in Polk County after graduating from the Angelina College Police Academy in 2003. He started at the Constable’s Department, then moved to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department as a patrol deputy. 

Investigator Wheeler left law enforcement for a brief period to help with his family’s commercial construction business, but in 2009, he was hired by the Trinity Police Department as a patrol officer. By April 2010, Wheeler had taken over the K9 program and was the narcotics officer/handler for K9 Eric for almost two years. 

On December 28, 2010, Wheeler was promoted to Patrol Sergeant. He has made numerous arrests and is passionate about securing arrest and convictions in burglaries, thefts, and illegal narcotics trafficking.

In January of 2011, Investigator Wheeler arrested a drug dealer and received a certificate of commendation from Trinity County Crime Stoppers. 

Wheeler holds multiple Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certificates including, but not limited to: Sexual Assault, Family Violence, Human Trafficking, Field Training Officer, Death and Crime Scene Investigation; and he currently holds an Advanced Peace Officer Certificate.In October of 2016, Investigator Wheeler attended the 28th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Conference and received a certificate of completion from Governor Greg Abbott. Investigator Wheeler is the Trinity County Crime Stopper Law Enforcement Coordinator for the county and looks forward to the challenges he will face in that position.
