Trinity Volunteer Fire Dept., Police raise thousands for local resident

Kelsey Huffman, owner of the Kaoss Dance Study in Trinity, TX and teacher’s aide at Lansberry Elementary School, was in a motorcycle accident on Dec. 27, 2016 that led to doctors discovering that she had a benign brain tumor. Huffman is scheduled to have brain surgery on Feb. 20 in downtown Houston. To offset some of the costs, the Trinity Police Department and Trinity Volunteer Fire Department held a barbecue fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 3 where they raised over $6,000.

“While she has insurance, the surgery will still come at a great cost to her family as there will be travel costs, the upfront cost of surgery, and there will be a recovery period where she will not be able to work,” Trinity Police Chief Steve Jones said. “All proceeds will go directly to her.”

To ensure the fundraiser’s success, the police and fire department tried to make buying plates as convenient as possible by having a drive-through line and allowing citizens to call in orders. “I really appreciate the community coming out to support us supporting someone else,” Chief Jones commented. “We always try to help out with other fundraisers, and we appreciate people helping with ours.”
